Laser projectors for auditoriums & large venues

Large rooms need far more light than a meeting room: a bigger screen spreads the same brightness thinner, and halls are rarely completely dark. These installation projectors range from about 5,000 to 26,000 lumens, mostly with laser light sources that run for tens of thousands of hours without lamp changes.

How bright does an auditorium projector need to be?

A rough guide for a room with the lights dimmed. With lights on, or a very wide screen, go one step up.

Room and screenBrightness to look for
Up to ~150 seats · screen about 3–4 m wide5,000 – 7,000 lumens
150 – 400 seats · screen about 4–6 m wide7,000 – 10,000 lumens
400 – 1,000 seats · screen about 6–10 m wide12,000 – 20,000 lumens
Concerts, stages, projection mapping, outdoor events20,000+ lumens

Send us the hall size, seating and screen width with your quotation request and we'll recommend specific models.

Laser or lamp for a large venue?

  • Laser: full brightness in seconds, no lamp replacements, typically rated 20,000+ hours — the usual choice for halls used every day.
  • Lamp: a lower purchase price, but lamps need replacing and brightness drops as they age. Lamp-based installation models suit occasional use.
  • Projectors mounted high up or above seating are hard to service — another reason most installations now choose laser.

Lenses, throw distance and installation

Many large-venue projectors are sold without a lens, so the lens can be matched to where the projector will be mounted. Throw distance = throw ratio × screen width: a 1.5:1 lens fills a 5 m wide screen from about 7.5 m away. Lens shift lets the projector sit off-centre (for example, on a ceiling mount) without distorting the picture, and edge blending lets two or more projectors make one very wide image.

Frequently asked questions

Which lens do I need?

It depends on the distance from the projector to the screen and the screen width. Tell us both (or send a floor plan) and we'll specify the lens; several projectors here use interchangeable lenses from short throw to long throw.

Is WUXGA enough, or do I need 4K?

WUXGA (1920×1200) is the standard for auditoriums and lecture halls and is sharp at normal viewing distances. Choose 4K for very large screens viewed up close, detailed technical or medical content, or premium venues.

How long does a laser projector last?

Laser light sources are typically rated 20,000 hours or more — around 10 years at 8 hours a day — before dropping to half brightness. There are no lamps to replace.

Can you quote for installation as well?

Yes — mention installation, mounting height and cabling in your quotation request and we'll include it or arrange it with you.

Do you give GST invoices for institutions?

Yes. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and we prepare formal quotations for schools, colleges, companies and government buyers.
